Hello, The R model features a round speaker design with mono terminals meant for a single channel input from your amp while the STR has stereo inputs so you can drive two channels to the speaker. As an example, you could connect the Front Left and Front Right channel to a single STR speaker and it will output both signals from the single speaker as opposed to the R model where it would only output one channel and you would need two of these speakers to do both Left and Right.
