Definitive makes a guide that comes with the box. It's easiest if you tape your guide to the surface where you want the speaker mounted and use a push pin to trace the guide and put small holes in the ceiling or wall where you want the speaker mounted. Then use a sheet rock saw or other tool to cut the hole. The guide is available on the Definitive web site and can be printed or you can request one from them. I'm guessing they will send you one.
