Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, the computer I purchased, which you are asking about IS actual metal both the TOP and BOTTOM case, as in an actual aluminum casing. DELL tried talking me out of this computer, which I eventually bought from Best Buy, because I believe it weighs almost eight pounds. Naturally, they wanted me to buy a more expensive and LIGHTER computer, since they said this one was going to be outdated! However, I LOVE the huge screen, being older because it is so very easy to read and see. It still easily packs into my computer carrying bag which I use to take this laptop on trips, vacations, etc., etc. I also purchased it because it has seven (7) different ports/connections for making presentations and providing other means of connecting to projectors, phone, etc., etc.
