“How does this laptop work with SOLIDWORKS/CAD/MATLAB and other engineering software? I need a laptop that can keep up with these programs without crashing or stalling.”

It will be able to handle them and more only trouble I have is with the battery it does not last long at all I maybe get 4 hrs out of it while running cad/matlab

I do a lot of personal 2-d CAD, and unfortunately, if you use any display resolution other than the recommended one, the display is quite fuzzy. I decided to keep the computer since I don't know if other brands / models would be any different. Another thing that is really annoying is that on at least one occasion, the video seemed to crash (screen went black for a few seconds and then came back degraded) and a system display said the video driver failed to load and it had to get a driver update from the web. So evidently, the success of the video card depends on being connected to the web. Very bad feature as no hardware was changed! Also, the operating system crashed on me once while web browsing. One reason I got this computer is that at a previous job we were issued 17" Dell workstation laptops and they were solid and fast for CAD and Matlab. This one is for my personal use and I didn't want to spend $4k to get the model I used to have at work, but not sure I would recommend this computer for business.
