500mb is bad. You mean 500 gb? And yes, SSD is faster and consumes less power and is quieter.

However if you will be doing a lot of writing and erasing on the drive frequently, you may find that the SSD will last a bit less time; on the flip side, a non-SSD HDD will tend to have bad sectors over time. Also if you need to truly securely wipe a drive, an HDD is generally a safer choice. If you are a typical user, an SSD is usually the better choice.
