I just took my dell laptop about of the box and plugged it in and it does not start right away. Does it need to be charged completely first even though I have the power adapter plugged in? null

Usually not, but it always a good idea to charge for several hours before using.

Make sure you hold the power button down for 2-3 seconds and watch for the keyboard to light up. If nothing happens, take it to Geek Squad.

We were able to unbox our product and use right away without the power cable

Mine came almost completely charged. You're supposed to take it out of the box, plug it in and then power it on. It should be on after you press the power button. You should return yours and try one more box.

Weird. Plugged in it should boot up regardless of battery life.
