It would depend on the version you are using and how you acquired it. The licensing is different for each version. If it is a home/student version of 2010 or newer it will work fine if you have install media (DVD's) of the program and the setup number that goes with it. If Office came installed on your old computer, it can be problematic as sometimes the install is linked to the old computer at MS. That said, Office 365 is a ripoff - you keep paying for forever. If you are going to buy one, get Office 2016. It is a little more upfront, but it is YOURS to use as you wish on the computer you buy it for.
