I would not go that far to say it's an added expense. What I would say, is based on the service you receive, in most cases it is worth it based on the usage of your system. If responsible persons are using it without going into malicious website, and downloading unnecessary apps and software, then it is not worth the added expense. The service plan does offer that added protection if something happen.
