- Answer You will need a USB-to-Ethernet port adapter. Laptop manufacturers are trending to omit the Ethernet port, especially on lower priced models. This allows them to save some space and weight, as well as to lower prices. The exception is usually laptops aimed at business or gaming. P.S.: You can use any of the USB ports for this, although the Thunderbolt port will be best if you have access to high speed internet (2.5Gbps or above).
