I am doing exactly this on my HP laptop. You have to enable it on the Windows desktop. I have this monitor set up as my primary display and the laptop's display as the secondary extended one. Right click anywhere on the desktop and then click the menu drop down options -> Display Options -> Output to -> Extended Desktop . From there you can select either option to have your primary display as the first source and second display as secondary source or vice-versa. I have this monitor (secondary source) set as primary since it is bigger than my laptop's monitor. That's the "Monitor + Built-In Display" option selected for my application.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It displayed extended from my laptop just fine. You will probably have to adjust the settings in your graphics options on the computer itself for the second screen to work. The monitor just displays the image, it's the computer that will have to split it like you want.
