• Yes, the sound will be through the laptop or the external speaker as this monitor does not have built-in speakers.

• This monitor does not have built in speakers. It does accept an audio signal via HDMI (and I believe DisplayPort as well), and has a headphone/line out port with volume control on the monitor, but you still need an external set of powered speakers or headphones.
