Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you can make hot coffee that is the primary use for the the pot. The cold coffee is made only if you want to add ice in the carafe during brewing. There are two settings. One is for traditional "Drip" type coffee. The difference is the water is heated in the upper bowl to the correct temperature and released thought the coffee. If the water cools down too much it will stop until the water temperature is correct and begin again. This differs from the "Mr. Coffee" type where the water is heated in the bottom or back tank and forced up a tube and squirted into the coffee as the pressure in the heating chamber increases. The Pour Over (also hot coffee) differs only that the water is released in increments over the coffee as opposed to continuous. It gives a bit of a different result. I have had mine for several months and love it. You may have a trial period while you decide how much coffee to use in the filter. Suggest going with what you may have used before and then try a few pots with a bit more and a bit less. It tends to get the most out of the coffee.
