• Hi, yes a paper filter can be used in replace of the included gold tone filter. We recommend using a number 4 filter for this unit. Thank you.

• Yes, we use both the included filter but also large cone shaped paper filters when we don't want a gritty last cup. (not at the same time of course)

• I did not see anything in the info about using a filter however I am using one. I had #4 filters on hand so I have been adapting them by cutting 1/2” off the top. When theses have to be replaced I will try to find some that fit. I did not like the “dregs” left on the bottom so I prefer a filter. Hope this has been helpful.

• The standard paper filter should fit. But the filter equipped fits and works perfectly and is of better craftsmanship than most of the built ins of today. Also, incredibly easy to clean. Coming from a similar ninja that did not have the espresso option this is far superior.
