I had a few gremlins hooking up to my Direct TV. Used an "HDMI ( arc )" spec cable between cable box out and Denon Cab/Sat in. Also HDMI (arc) cable from AVR out to TV in. And also an audio optical cable between TV out and AVR in ( needed this for streaming sound ). Then the fun starts getting all the settings correct. On my TV there is setting for TV speakers or external speakers/AVR.
