“I tried to purchase a sub to use with this system in addition to built in speakers in my living room. The surround sound speakers work just fine but I cannot get sound to come through the sub. Should an external sub work and if so which one?”

First which sub are you using? Did you properly connect both audio cables to left and right spots?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes an external subwoofer should work. I recommend using the automatic speaker setup in the settings and troubleshooting from there. My experience with Denon tech support has been pleasant as well. I'm using a Klipsch powered subwoofer that has been working as it should. I assume that if your subwoofer is powered and has the standard RCA connection, it should work. Keep in mind that not all media has subwoofer output. I run into this from time to time with TV media. I hope this helps!
