“Why doesn’t the component-video input transmit video to my new Sony Bravia TV? I connected an older DVD player using the setup assistant, & set-up assistant says video from this device won’t be transmitted to the TV. I only get audio. (TV works fine.)”

I don't know "why" but I do know that it is not designed to upgrade a component signal to output from the HDMI out. I found this out when I also tried to hook up a component DVD player. It is just the way it is. Only work around is to output from DVD player directly to the TV - if your TV has component in capability. Mine does not! So, if I want to play DVDs I need to get a new player that will output HDMI.

The receiver does not have the ability to upconvert analog video to HDMI. This includes Component video. For future reference, the AVR-X4700H does have this ability.
