Talk to Denon customer service today 11/12/21 he stated any avrx4700h made after May 2021 has the updated motherboard which fixed the bugs. So buying one today will not have the 4k 120hz bug issue. I use my unit for movies and theater effects and used HDMI connections. Sounds great. Which I purchased 8/25/21. Not a gaming person. Enjoy your purchase. I am enjoying mind. Plus Best buy has a 15 day return policy. Hope this helps.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hello and thank you for your question and interest in our product. The original release of 8K receivers will require an external HDMI 2.1 box. This is provided at no charge. All new receivers have been updated with the 8K 2.1 chip and do not require the external box.

In the rare chance that you get your hands on a unit suffering the bug, you can submit a request to Sound United (Denon) for a small external HDMI 2.1 box that corrects and eliminates the 2.1 bug. Search for "Sound United HDMI 2.1 fix" and you should find the request page. Typing in there serial number on the manufacturer's site will reveal if the receiver you have needs the external box or not. I purchased by 4700h over the summer can confirm no HDMI 2.1 issue with an Xbox Series X. However, a 6700h I purchased in September 2020 shipped with the bug (obviously) and successful submitted and received the HDMI external box from Sound United.
