To note: When I bought this drone for my grandson, I found out that the DJI Fly App was not compatible with my grandson Samsung A11 phone, So I had to end up buying a cheap used Google Pixel 3A phone for under 80 USD without cellular service just to uses a screen and connect to Wifi and download the DJI Fly App. As per your questions, In order to use all the functionality “Yes” a phone or tablet or IPad is required. It Requires to install the DJI Fly App and according to the DJI site https://www.dji.com/downloads/djiapp/dji-fly it says “Compatible with Samsung Galaxy S21” To ensure it works on your Samsung Galaxy S21, You would download the Android version APK pack from this same page https://www.dji.com/downloads/djiapp/dji-fly. Would connect after the app is downloaded? It’s really simple - You would first have to start up the Drone and Controller to connect to the DJI Fly app on your phone, And once they are started select the drone type in the app (DJI Mini SE) to launch and open the app. Could you explain the wifi/internet necessity to operate this drone?" This is a Wi-Fi drone so as long as you have wifi turned on that’s fine, But you don’t require cellular service to use wifi or for the internet. But you will need to be able to connect to the internet via wifi connection at home to download the DJI Fly App. Overall the drone is very simple to fly out of the box once you have downloaded the DJI Fly App and have plugged in your phone to the Controller and launched the app. I hope that helps.
