All 3d printers need software that slices up the 3d model and generates code that tells the printer what to do. The Dremmel prints from proprietary file extensions, so you can't directly print stl files from thingiverse or tinkercad. You probably wouldn't want to do that anyway since most of the things you download need to be cleaned up or slightly modified to get the print thats works for you. (You usually have to scale the file or make some minor tweak to the fill rate). No matter what printer you buy, you're going to want a good slicer. Repetier-host is open source, free to download, and comes with a good slicer. I purchased Simplify3D and love it. Simplify3D has a preset for the dremmel so it's easy and works right away. Both programs output in the dremmel print format.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.There is software from Dremel that is free on their website that will take your STL and spit out the dremel rafted format that it looks for. It could load an STL directly, but I haven't tried that yet
