You have an outlet that is split into 2 parts. One part is hot or on all of the time and the other part goes on and off with the switch. This outlet will not allow you to wire it the same way as the old one. You can only connect the black wire (normally hot all the time) or the red wire that goes on and off with the switch. If you use this outlet you will have an extra wire since only one can be used. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm no electrician despite staying at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but the extra red wire is usually indicative of a 3 way light switch. This would be if there's another nearby light switch that serves the same purpose for one room. For example, my kitchen has a light switch near the garage entry and one in the adjacent dining room. Both will turn on/off the kitchen lights. I think you'd be ok placing a wire cap on that red wire and going about your business. It definitely doesn't need to be attached to the new outlet. Only the 2 white, 2 black, and bare copper grounding wire.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This unit has no facility for "splitting" the outlets - one swithed; one unswitched. There is no reason that you couldn't have it connected to a wall switch, but then the USB charging ports would be turned off by that switch also. You cannot have both the red wire and the black wire connected. Put a wire nut on the one you aren't using.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes and I going to do my complet house.good luck.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.the red wire tells me that the switch was a 3way meaning the light or what ever was being controlled had multiple switchs
