Does it replace the HDMI that goes out on the tv null

It uses one HDMI input on your TV, but gives you three more HDMI inputs...just like a multi-outlet strip uses one electrical outlet, but then gives you multiple electrical outlets to use.

Optical cable is only for AUDIO.

You'll need an HDMI coupler. These will not work.
