A:Answer I believe that the cable has nothing to do with USB compatibility as long as the plugs match. Older or less expensive cables may be more resistant electrically, thus reducing the signal strength. I routinely plug my USB equipment into which ever port is available, if you plug an USB 3 item into an USB 2 port, it will simply run slower.
