You don't say what model of HP laptop you have but the odds of this cable working are effectively zero. Display port is typically only found on Macs. What you most likely need for a newer HP laptop is an HDMI to HDMI cable, but to be sure, you'll have to either check your manual or look at the ports on the side and back to determine what available output ports you have.
