I"d have to make a guess but I'd say it's not provided to keep the cost down. This is Dynex and sold by Best Buy. They usually sell extra coverage for most of their devices. The unit also only comes with a 90-day warranty. It is made in China, BTW. I've only known of one person that tried to use connected-equipment coverage and he was successful. I suspect that very few people use this provided service as most home-owners insurance will cover equipment lost to electrical surges (read your insurance policy to be certain!).
