• You should only need to re-paste if you having a problem with overheating. Obviously, if you change processors you will need to paste.

• Remove the old thermal paste with rubbing alcohol and apply new thermal paste anytime you replace your heat sink or processor. As long as you don't separate your processor from the heat sink, leave it alone.

• Only once every time the HSF is removed from a processor. The processor should be completely cleansed of compound before applying new compound.

• That's all up to you. Some people almost never re paste. I re paste if I noticed rises in temp levels which is usually after a year or so.

• Paste once every 2 years. Unless you do heavy gaming and/or graphic intensive applications all day everyday then I would do it every 6 months.
