Yes it's normal for it to be turned on when the vacuum turns on.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I tried the vacuum with your question in mind. On a bare floor, the brushbar did not go on at all. On a rug, it went on if and only if the handle was not firmly at the standing position. So, I would recommend making sure you hear a "click" when you set the vacuum to a standup position. The brushbar should not go on, and if it does, you might have a defective switch.
