Hi Falcon, this is Kelly with Dyson. The filter life on our filters for the Dyson DP04 Pure Cool is 4382 hours. If you were to run your machine 12 hours every single day, you would have about a year of life from your filter. With regard to disposal, we would generally recommend to check with your local municipality for their recommendations on disposal and/or recycling. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
