“Is this vacuum good for area rugs or is the suction to much that it will suck the rug into the brush and stop it from spinning”

Really depends on the rug. We have some rugs it works fine on, and some it will suck up. If it is a thin rug it may not work well.

For example my rug is heavy and rough so the carpet never gets stuck do to the vacuums suction. And the vacuum, for this model, has two interchangeable brush heads. One made for wooden floors and carpets and one made to vacuum carpet to perfection, by creating an incredibly stronger suction.
