I tried both. Yes the main difference is the air purifier, but also the size because the base is designed to contain the filter. I also noticed that with the HP01 the air flows better and is good for a larger space. I did not keep it because it is more than what we needed.

This machine will not provide any level of purification, and there is no included filter. The HP01 will operate just like the AM09, but there is a filter that sits inside of the shroud at the bottom of the unit. This machine does provide purification.
