  • QuestionHow many watts does the unit draw when heating a room? How many watts is the heater rated for?

    • Answer Hello DonM, This is Miella from Dyson. The input power at the maximum heat setting is 40 watts, and the motor type is a DC motor 14000 watts. In standby (plugged in, but not in use) the machine takes less than 0.5 watts. Hope this helps! Miella Dyson Customer Support

  • QuestionWhat is the CADR for this machine? Does the air purifier work on it's own without heating or cooling? Does the fan have to be on for the purifier to work?

    Asked by BurneySue.

    • Answer Hi Sue, this is Kelly with Dyson. The Dyson HP04 Pure Hot + Cool air purifier does need to be in either heating or cooling mode to have the benefits of air purification. When on, the machine draws in air from the bottom of the machine, where it's purified through the filter and expelled in to the room. CADR stands for Clean Air Delivery Rate. This is the volume of filtered air delivered by a purifier in a given time frame. This measurement does not represent the quality of the air leaving the unit, only how much. For this reason it is largely irrelevant as a measure. This does not in any way represent a machine's ability to effectively mix the purified air with the ambient air in the room. CADR testing is performed in an empty room, with a ceiling fan simulating air movement - this is not indicative of the live environment our products are used in. • QuestionWhat is the heat output in BTU's

    Asked by terry.

    • Answer The Dyson air multiplier heaters max out at around 1575 watts. The conversion of Watts to BTUs is about 3.4, so this wattage = approx 5300 btu per hour. You need between 15-20 btu per hour per sq ft to achieve acceptable environmental comfort in your room, so these heaters should be able to get rooms 260-360 sqft to a stable temp without breaking the bank. It will be expensive to run at high temp constantly but the air multiplier design makes it more efficient than other heaters. Note however that after a couple years using this machine I’ve discovered that either the air flow (dries out your eyes leading to headaches) or ultrasonic sound emanating from the machine, cause severe headaches after a few hours of sitting in a room with the heater function running. I worked all thorough out the pandemic in 2020 with one of these running for 4-6hrs a day and found it causes these headaches. So they’re great for hearing open spaces in your house but beware if you plan on sitting in proximity to one for an entire work day.
