“Hello, when using the heat and cold air function does the purifier have to be on or can you simply choose when you want it to be on? Looking into purchasing one very soon and would want to know whether to buy with or without purifier. Thank you.”

It is always purifying the air as it pulls room air through it's HEPA filter. The only reason I see to not do this would be to extend the life of the filter. It does track air quality so it might be surprising to actually see what the air quality is as it does change throughout the course of a day, week, etc.
