Hi Steve, this is Kelly with Dyson. Thank you for your interest in the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool Air Purifier. The first filter comes included in the box with the machine; it'll already be installed in to the purifier for you. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
