“Do I have to have it on cool or heat to purify? Can it purify without the fan? I don’t always need heat or cool but I do always need it purifying.”

The filter does require air to be circulating in order to do its job, so the fan or heat will have to be on. With the auto setting though it will only turn on when your air quality has decreased, so it won’t need to run all the time.
