I have a Netgear dual band router/cable modem and there was no issue. I have an Ecobee 4 and the Ecobbe 3 lite connected to it.

One thing to consider if your router allows, is to have the Thermostat (and any other connected device) connect to the internet via a separate ‘guest’ network. These are offered by many routers to allow connectivity to the internet without the ability to connect to your personal devices like your computers and any network attached storage you may have.
