• No, it will work without Wi-Fi and act like a standard thermostat. You'd be better off getting a cheap standard thermostat if not connecting the unit online.

• Yes. You need decent wireless coverage. ecobee is server-based, so you will need wireless access to be able to make full use of it. I understand it can work more or less standalone through the device control panel, but configuration is stored, usage tracked, and reports generated via the ecobee servers. No additional charge for the access, and the data is very useful.

• You do not have to have internet for it to work but in order to be able to change it from any where in the world you have to have internet.
