“I checked the manual. Makes no mention of a battery. Is there a battery? The screen wouldn't light up for me to change or do anything. I had to pull it off the wall, reconnect and then it would light up and work as normal”

Hi Jon! All ecobee smart thermostats require the use of a C Wire for constant power and do not operate by battery. Please send an email to [email protected] with a photo of your current wiring. Always happy to help.
