4 has a full blown Alexa module built into the unit. That’s the only thing I can see as a differentiatior between the two

I see deals for the Ecobee sensors all the time as low as $39.99 for 2 pk. I ordered two of these for my four bedroom house. I can select which sensor the heat/AC is set to. Best Buy, Amzn, Bedbath, etc. Slick deals will give you alerts. Ecobee 3 & 4 both come with one sensor.

The only major difference between the ecobee4 vs. ecobee3 lite is that the ecobee4 includes additional terminals, which would allow you to connect additional heating and cooling hardware (if you have it). Also, The ecobee3 lite does not have a built-in occupancy sensor, whereas the ecobee3 and ecobee4 do.
