“I have the Ecobee4 enabled with Alexa. Do I still need the Echo dot? Can the Ecobee4 do all or most of the things the Dot does?”

You don't need the DOT because the thermostat has full Alexa functionality. HOWEVER, the microphone and the speaker on the thermostat sucks when compared with the DOT.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No additional Dot is needed. So far, this one does all that my other two do. I haven't tried to play music on it yet. But my husband is happy that it can change the TV channels.

You can ask Alexa questions, play Amazon music, listen tk the news, get the weather, set timers, etc through the Ecobee 4. It wasn't able to play Spotify. I haven't tried controlling smart lights or anything through the ecobee4.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This is old but hoping someone searching now might see it. I wouldn’t say it’s a 1 to 1 situation with the Ecobee Alexa and a dot. Speaker and microphone quality are an obvious thing but the Ecobee Alexa also doesn’t play nice with all streaming music services and can’t be added to speaker groups. :/
