“Can anyone tell me how many actual units are included in this "system" and what they are? The pictures show only one main unit (the router?), but many reviews mention 3 units. Do I need to order 'beacons' in addition to this unit?”

A starter package will come in sets of 3. This will be enough to cover 5,000 sqft. The first eero will act as the router (it is plugged into the modem) The other two you can place throughout the home.

I only bought this piece as an upgrade from my old Netgear router when the ethernet port failed on the old one. It has worked well as a substitute. It took a long time to get all my smart home devices to communicate with it but once that was done it has worked well.
