No, but you do need internet service from a provider, which feeds an EERO base station. Then, the BEACON will EXTEND the WiFi signal created by the EERO. One would start with an internet service and modem, plugged into an EERO. Then, you could add BEACON's as needed to extend that WiFi signal.

Not sure what you mean by buying Wi-Fi from a provider. You need internet connectivity from a provider and this will act as your Wi-Fi network router and beacons. Using a set of eeros you can set up Wi-Fi for the entire house as long as you have internet coming into your house somewhere.
