• The lid is attached, but it tilts out of the way for easy cleaning. The hinge is a little stiff (and I worried that I was breaking it the first time I used it), but the lid fully raises to a 90 degree angle to allow you to clean the interior.

• Nope, its attached. Though to clean any hard water stains, just boil three cups of vinegar as per the instruction manual.
