The knob turns both ways once time has been added. A little more force is required to reduce the time. By the way, my Emerald 2.2 L air fryer suddenly died after 5 weeks of normal use. 15 minutes most days at 400 deg.

In fact, its better if you're going to just run it for a few minutes that you actually go out to about 10 to 15 minutes and then back it down so that the clock works properly.
