“Do I need a charger to recharge then or how does it work”

Yes. I used an Energizer Recharge 4 Battery Universal Charger

You need a charger that fits that size. There should be a charger made buy them that is compatible.

Yes, you need a charging unit to recharge rechargeable batteries of any size so you don't have to keep buying batteries when your old ones go out. If you have at least 2 sets to swap out so your device continues to work optimally.
