“Does the HP Envy 17 (17M-BW0013DX) have an extra SATA slot? I need a laptop with two (2) SATA slots where the 1st slot holds the default HD and the 2nd slot is empty. I need to add my own HD in the, hopefully, second spare (free) slot. TIA”

This model does not have an extra SATA slot. It does have an M.2 slot for an SSD.
