“My Epson XP-440 printer won't print. I just bought a new black cartridge (288), but it tells me the blue cartridge needs to be replaced; apparently the black one is fine. Can't I just have it print black and forget about color printing for now?”

No. I keep buying colors and I don’t need, I’m very disappointed the printer were designed to make money on cartridge

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.While the driver allows you to select black or greyscale only printing it will not allow you to clean only the black print head. If black stops working your stuck and you have to buy the color ones even though you don't want to use then...then you may find cleaning doesn't help and you wasted your money on 4 cartridges. Just put your money towards another brand of printer. I will never buy Epson again.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can just print with the black cartridge. Go to Windows settings click on devices from the menu on the left click printers. Place you mouse over your printer name click once the click on the highlighted Manage. Click onto printer preferences. On the main menu their will be a radio button for color & Grayscale click on the grayscale. Now your printer will only use the black cartridge. This of course is for windows 10. You can do this for any version but the steps might be different is all. Good luck
