I purchased this as a Christmas gift. The user has not tried to scan from a cell phone. Frankly, it seems to me that a scanner scans what you put on the screen. Anything on his cell phone or a photo on his computer he sends to a printer or to someone else via email. FYI, he has as yet not been able to scan text to character recognition. It may require software not included.
