If you want sound to play through the projector speaker you need an HDMI cable hooked up to whatever device you are getting video from. An HDMI cable gives you video and audio all in one cable. If you want sound to play through external speakers you need an audio receiver with an HDMI or audio cable running from the projector to the receiver.
