• Hello JW610. You can choose Black & White or Color in your print settings. However, depending on the paper type or print‑quality options you select, the printer may still use color ink to produce black, since some print modes create black by mixing all colors. For this reason, the printer requires all four cartridges, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black, to be installed for proper operation. Regards, Kevin - The Epson Team.
