Yes it is now common for local channels to offer streaming services for a subscription fee. One issue is if you have direct internet service and are NOT using a provider such as Comcast, Xfinity, or Verizon, ect. Many local channels only offer service via these big providers. You do not need to be local to the area, your location does not matter. Popular among foreign nationals is subscribing to channels back in their home country for example.
