Please try again later.I don't know if the camera will work without wi-fi, I am guessing no as it would have no way to talk to the PC/phone, whatever device you want to look at the image. Mine is installed in a basement and gets excellent reception so No, it does not have to be installed close to the router. It will need to be SET UP, i.e. establish connection close to the router - the reviews recommending this are accurate; but once set up, it can be placed a good distance from router.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you need WiFi to use it. I sat it up close to the router and then I moved it in another room. It's easy to set up. You need a micro SD card or you can't set it up. Easy to work and I would recommend it.
